USA Patriot Act
Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 In order to comply with the USA PATRIOT Act, effective October 1, 2003, Buffalo Fire Department Federal Credit Union is required to verify the identity of existing and new members applying for and opening new accounts or services with the credit union. Information we are required to obtain and verify includes name, residential address, tax identification number and date of birth. Additional data may also be gathered depending on the type of account being opened. The Act requires us to maintain records of the identification verification. Confidentiality of the information maintained by the credit union will be protected as required under our Privacy Policy.
Your Credit Union has been preparing for this deadline for several months, asking members for their drivers’ license or any form of photo ID. The Credit Union in turn is entering this ID into its computer database for future reference. It is necessary to have the entire Credit Union membership in this database in order to comply with this Act.
Please be patient with our Member Service Representatives when they ask for ID. They are only doing their job. Our Federal regulator, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), will have their examiners closely monitor this situation to ensure that the Credit Union is in full compliance with the Act.
Thank you for your patience!
